Stepin' in Africa : These photos were mostly taken in the country of Swaziland. It is interesting the comparisions that could be made between African stepping and American stepping. The girls you see in the photos are practing the traditional "Reed dance" Please google, Reed Dance Swaziland" and learn the interesting tradition behind this dance. Stepping in Southern Africa is highly organized yet, highly spontaneous just like in the States. In this album you will see young people stepping on the side of the roads just to pass time. The creativity however, I belive the Africans have mastered. They work with little props and always work with self made beats created by anything they can hit with their hands (rubberboots sound incredible). They also use long sticks which they find and make themselves. These could be compared to canes, I assume. The Swazi's I shot here have no access to television, so their moves I can only assume are more original if not genuine. They have "step shows" where they meet fellow swazis to compete.

Sandra Lee Center Swaziland, Southern Africa : This is an amazing small group of homes that care for orphaned children in Swaziland. Many of the children brought to these homes are abandoned at hospitals due to their HIV/AIDS status. An amazing woman Robyn started this center with her husband.
